Who should take the test

If you have irregular periods, are experiencing problems getting pregnant, or having symptoms of PCOS, a blood test can help you find out whether or not you have the condition.

Once you know, you’re able to make more informed and better decisions about your health and wellbeing.

Common PCOS symptoms include:

  • Irregular periods or no periods at all
  • Excess hair growth (hirsutism) on the face, chest, back
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Thinning hair or hair loss
  • Oily Skin
  • Acne
When to take the test

If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms related to PCOS (See ‘Who should take the test’ tab).

  • Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)
AMH is a hormone secreted by cells in developing eggs within the ovaries. The level of AMH is a good indicator of how many eggs you have left.
  • Testosterone
Testosterone is typically a hormone that when elevated can be an indication of PCOS.
  • Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)
Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) binds with certain hormones and transports them in your blood. When these hormones are bound to SHBG your body can't use them. This helps regulate how much is available for your body to use. If your SHBG levels are imbalanced it can cause high levels of testosterone.
